Welcome to Urban Trust Bank

Urban Trust Bank (UTB), formerly Orlando-based Metro Bank, established its Washington, DC flagship branch in downtown Washington, DC just blocks from the White House at Franklin Square at 1350 I Street NW in 2006. The new name and vision rededicates the institution to serving the community with excellent banking and financial services in a service-focused environment.

Originally incorporated in the Washington Shores section of Orlando, Florida in 1963, Urban Trust’s forbear, Metro Bank, served the Orlando community for nineteen years. Metro Bank received a federal charter from the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) on June 20, 1990, at which point, the bank became Metro Savings Bank, F.S.B. Today, Metro Bank’s original branch office continues to serve the Orlando community and is still located at 715 South Goldwyn Avenue.

On August 30, 2005, following a key investment, a notice of change in control was submitted to the OTS on behalf of Robert L. Johnson to acquire 51 percent of the common stock of Worldwide Financial Investors Inc., the parent company of Metro Bank. That change in control was approved February 21, 2006. On April 19, 2006 a request was made and notice filed to amend the federal stock charter of Metro Bank to change its corporate title to Urban Trust Bank. That approval was dated May 8, 2006.

Urban Trust Bank’s flagship stands today at the epicenter of the dynamic Washington, DC business center, the first branch and headquarters for a bank focused on offering quality banking services to a diverse, rapidly changing urban environment.
